Mission
To positively impact the health, wellness and quality of life for children locally and globally.
Vision
Coby Cares Foundation joined with the California Community Foundation in 1989 with one goal in mind: Helping Kids. Coby Cares was founded by David Brubaker in honor of his late wife, Coby Stockard Brubaker, and he runs it with their son, Jay Brubaker. Dave has been a long-time donor to a variety of non-profit organizations, serving on the Board of Vitamin Angels as well as Operation USA. Both non-profits provide children overseas with vitamins necessary for their survival.
In creating Coby Cares, David continues his late wife’s legacy of helping children. Coby Cares is a small, grass-roots foundation. There is no overhead; the foundation functions as a facilitator between generous donors and children that are in need. Where many non-profits’ spend a large percentage of their funds on promotions and staff, Coby Cares Foundation is dedicated to using 100% of all donated monies directly towards helping children Internationally and within the United States.
Here is an example of how Coby Cares Foundation functions. We work with the California Community Foundation in reviewing a multitude of charity organizations and various requests for grants. The members of the Coby Cares Foundation will select the recipients based on their needs and ideas focused on “Coby’s compassionate way of life”. The Coby Cares Foundation will then donate a specific amount to assist a charity in reaching their goal. The money will then go directly to the charity or cause.
The Coby Care Foundation website will keep the donors up-to-date on the charities benefiting from their generosity. It is simple, effective, and every dime goes to the designated philanthropic cause. Coby Cares Foundation will never be a big-name foundation with grandiose fundraisers and celebrity endorsements. Instead, we will utilize any donated money to help children in need. It is as simple as that!
This is Coby’s mission, and Coby Cares guarantee.
Who Was Coby?
Coby was born in Montgomery, Alabama on April 9, 1953. She was a genuine southern lady with a natural charm and charisma and an extraordinary sense of humor. Her family was always the most important thing in her life. Although Coby wanted a large family, due to her cancer treatments, she was only able to have one child, her son Jay. Coby passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on April 27, 1987, at 34 years of age.
Why did she Care?
Coby always loved children. She radiated joy, kindness and love but had an overwhelming compassion for less fortunate children in need. Coby was a flight attendant prior to marrying Dave and was delighted when she was selected and trained to accompany children from Korea to the U.S. to be united with their adoptive parents. Coby’s ability to bring a smile to the faces of those around her, no matter the age, was an exceptional gift.
Today, the Coby Cares Foundation’s mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of children in need around the globe. Like Coby, her foundation aims to bring a smile to children’s faces and help enhance their health and wellness.
